Water

It takes anywhere from 900 to 1800 gallons of water to produce one pair of denim jeans. . Just counting the 350 million plus jeans sold every year in America alone, tThis amounts to over 400 billion gallons of water used annually in America alone. When not treated properly, as is often the case, wastewater pollution (up to 280,000 tons annually) is discharged back into water systems near the factories, and then are swept downstream to affect ecosystems and communities. Estimates state that 10-15% of dyestuffs used during the textiles manufacturing process are released into the environment, which is about 280,000 tons annually. The World Bank has accused the textile industry of being responsible for 15-20% of global industrial water pollution.

What is SOURCE doing?

Our dye processes uses a biodegradable, natural polymer, in its dyeing process, reducing the need for harmful sizing agents and dye auxiliaries. Because cotton needs to be dipped in the dye less times, it uses 40% less water in the production process. We are proud to say our denim has achieved 90% of the global Zero Discharge of Hazardous Waste commitment to eliminate 20 of the world's most harmful chemicals, five years earlier than the global deadline of 2020.
