Gigi, our supplier, lives in Italy where he began his company, ITALDENIM with a modern, technological but strong focus to “make the world a better place.” ITALDENIM was founded in a small village near Milano where they produce top quality denim fabrics in an environmentally and eco friendly manner to be delivered to clients all over the world. He’s a vital asset to SOURCE Denim and without Gigi, we wouldn’t have the business we do today.
ITALDENIM is currently working on three different themes. One is “respectDye” in which they use 100% natural colors. They’re also developing the “indigo of the future called ‘SMART INDIGO’” that excludes all hydrosulfite. Finally, they’re developing the Kiotsan as a “new basic element into the Denim production.” When asked what's the most important thing to remember as a supplier, Gigi answered, “reliability.” He continues, “Marketing must be the pusher of any innovations and not the tool to hide the truth.” They work closely with Green Peace and are proud of it, following their pledge “without any doubt.” Although Gigi and his company has accomplished much, his most dignified is their success in reducing the amount of water (65% today) that goes into the denim process. They’ve also succeeded in excluding any “chemiacal” tool suggested by multinational companies. They produce their own energy through a “co-generator” for less pollution and a zero impact production of their fabric.
Gigi offers advice to anyone working within the denim business explaining that denim is the fabric with the highest volume in textile production with a couple billion meters. Every meter uses tons of water, “dangerous chemicals and bad procedure,” and there are safer ways to deal with them. His final piece of advice is to make “one less mistake than yesterday.” Gigi is continuing to work, “hard and think everyday about new ways to combine sustainability and fashion.” They’re proud to be the artisans of the future.
